Clean Water New Jersey

TO ALL LONGPORT RESIDENTS:

Information received on August 24, 2017 is that the actual pumping of sand will not occur in Longport until the end of October. There will be some work near the Margate Border just after Labor Day as the new pipe location makes landfall.

As you may know, the City of Margate was successful in obtaining a court injunction temporarily halting the Absecon Island Shorefront Protection project in Margate. As a solution or compromise is being worked out, it is unclear if the Army Corp of Engineers and NJ DEP beach replenishment project work will be diverted to Ventnor or Longport. After speaking with the Army Corp Supervisor in Philadelphia, it was indicated that as of today, August 4, 2017, there had not been a decision made where the next beach fill sand will be staged. Naturally, myself and the Governing Body would like the project to resume in Longport but only after the completion of our summer season. If that is not the case, the Borough of Longport will prepare contingency plans that all scheduled activities occur in a safe and meaningful manner.

Please check this site frequently to ascertain if any new information becomes available. I will inform the public of any beach project decisions as they become available.

Mayor Nick Russo
